Position Overview

Directs the planning, management and execution of national fleet asset operations.  Develops and implements strategy supported by analytical modeling and systems to drive continuous improvement and facilitate business results.

Responsibilities

1.    Manages fleet capital and assets, including setting strategy, planning, implementation, supply chain, analysis, reporting, communication, and executive stakeholder management

2.    Direct maintenance and fuel operations to include performance, standards and vendor management of outsourced maintenance and fuel solutions

3.    Manages vehicle operation processes, including fuel, maintenance, fleet service center operations, license/registration, and vehicle acquisition/movement/disposal by designing and integrating a continuous improvement process

4.    Assesses current fleet systems and data, and establishes new business requirements based on fleet strategies; recommends development and management of fleet systems

5.     Gathers, summarizes and presents actionable information in management and operating level reports and scorecards  

6.    Supports the organization through analyses such as total cost of ownership (TCO) models, fleet process capability, and others based on business needs and priorities 

7.    Develops fleet/vehicle/equipment training content aligned with fleet strategies and process development

8.    Acts as a strategic business partner with divisional leadership in order to align maintenance operations with divisional objectives.

9.    Leads continuous cost improvement, productivity management, and process improvement strategies and techniques that drive profitability

10.   Provides leadership, management and development to a team of associates, including managers, individual contributors and supplier partners 

11.   Manages engineering support of existing fleet and development and prototyping of new vehicles and fleet related systems

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in mechanical or automotive engineering, with 10+ years of experience in fleet operations management required
  • 2+ years of supervisory/management experience required
  • Master’s degree in business or engineering and/or experience in diversified truck and equipment management, including national fleet asset management strongly preferred
  • Experience designing, developing and implementing standardized processes required
  • Experience with telematics deployment and utilization in a fleet environment strongly preferred
  • Experience managing complex supplier relationships preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of fleet operations principles and best practices for a multi-facility, geographically dispersed service company with significant fleet resources
  • Ability to travel overnight on a frequent basis (approximately 50%) for meetings
  • Leadership and management skills, including performance coaching and development
  • Written and verbal communication skills, including executive presence and presentation skills
  • Relationship management and influencing skills
  • Financial acumen and resource management knowledge and skills
  • Quantitative and qualitative analytical skills and attention to details
  • Formal project management and change management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of database and reporting tools (e.g., Microsoft Access, Tableau)
